- Narrator It was a bright, blowy day in the park. The wind was feeling playful.
- Ollie A perfect picnic! My list here, my snack there. Everything just so.
- Narrator But the wind had picnic plans of its own.
- Ollie My list! My snack! They blew away! Somebody is taking my picnic!
- Bobo A quiet morning, Pim. I have polished my glass three times. It is very shiny and very bored.
- Pim Quiet is nice, Bobo. Not every day needs a mystery.
- Ollie Detectives! My whole picnic ran away! My list, my snack — gone in the wind!
- Bobo Ran away? Then someone CARRIED it away! A picnic thief is on the loose!
- Narrator Bobo heard the word gone. Bobo did not hear the word wind.
- Pim Or the wind carried it, Bobo. It is a very blowy day. Can you feel it?
- Bobo Clues do not blow about on their own, Pim! To the park, before the thief strikes again!
- Narrator Down the breezy alley, they found Fern, with Ollie's picnic in her paws.
- Bobo AHA! Fern! The list AND the snack, right there in your paws! Case closed!
- Pim Bobo, wait a moment.
- Fern These came tumbling to me on the wind. I was gathering them to bring back.
- Bobo A likely tale! The sly-looking one always has a tale.
- Narrator Bobo suspected Fern. Bobo always suspects Fern.
- Bobo I see your game! You and the wind are working together!
- Fern Me and the wind? Bobo, nobody can boss the wind about.
- Ollie But they really are mine. Did Fern take them?
- Pim Look at the ground, Bobo. The marks slide along. Nobody carried this. And feel that wind.
- Pim So here is the clue, friends: the picnic slid all this way by itself. Who do YOU think moved it?
- Bobo Back to the bench. If there is a thief, we catch them red-pawed this time.
- Pim Watch the list closely, Bobo. Do not blink.
- Narrator They waited. And the wind did just what wind does.
- Bobo The list! It flew off all by itself! No paws! No thief!
- Pim The wind, Bobo. The wind took the picnic all along.
- Bobo And I blamed Fern. Again.
- Fern You are forgiven, Bobo. Again.
- Bobo But the case is not closed! The wind is now my number one suspect. I shall watch it like a hawk.
- Ollie I know! My snack can sit on the list, like a little paperweight. Now it cannot run off.
- Pim Case closed: no thief at all, just a playful wind. Picnic saved!
- Narrator Case closed. Bobo watched the sky all day, waiting for the wind to slip up. It never did.
