Milo's brand-new kite is gone from the park — but the string is still lying there in the grass! The only witness is sleepy Ollie the owl, who saw something at dawn on his way to bed: "a long, thin thief. With a tail." So Bobo starts pointing at everybody in the wood who HAS a tail... starting with poor Milo himself. Ollie can only stay awake for three questions, and Bobo is spending them fast. Can Pim ask the RIGHT question before the only witness falls asleep?

- Pim That's the string, Bobo. The kite was on the other end.
- Bobo ...That is a very short kite.
- Ollie I saw it. At dawn. I was on my way to bed.
- Bobo A WITNESS! Ollie, describe the thief.
- Ollie A long, thin thief. With a tail. It went up over the trees, and it took the kite with it.
- Milo Three acorns, Ollie. Please stay awake.
- Ollie Three acorns is three questions. Then I sleep.
- Ollie That was one.
- Bobo Long. Thin. A tail.
- Bobo Milo. Turn around.
- Milo I'm the one who LOST it!
- Pim Evidence first, partner.
- Fern Morning! Has anybody seen my barrow? I left it by the beans.
- Bobo Fern. Were you out at dawn?
- Fern I'm always out at dawn. That's when the beans get watered.
- Bobo Ollie! Question two. Was the thief ORANGE?
- Ollie It was dawn, Bobo. Everything is grey at dawn.
- Ollie That was two.
- Pim Bobo.
- Bobo I have a THEORY. Watch.
- Bobo Long... thin... tail... going over the trees...
- Pim You look like a sock in a breeze.
- Fern Bobo, did you just ask if I was the thief?
- Bobo ...I asked if you were orange.
- Milo It's all right. I'll just make another one.
- Ollie One question left. And my eyes are closing.
- Pim A string with nothing on it. A witness who saw a tail. And a wind that got up at dawn.
- Pim Ollie. Last question. Was the tail BEHIND the thief, or in front of it?
- Ollie ...In front. It was going up backwards.
- Pim There wasn't a thief with a tail. The tail WAS the thief.
- Bobo The KITE?
- Pim Ollie watched the kite leave, and told us something took it.
- Milo I tied the string to Fern's barrow. So it wouldn't blow away.
- Fern And I wheeled my barrow to the beans. At dawn.
- Bobo So it didn't fly off. It got TOWED off.
- Ollie It's in the tall tree. It has been all morning. Nobody looked UP.
- Milo You got it down!
- Ollie I got the words wrong. I could get the kite.
- Bobo Fern. I'm sorry I asked if you were a thief.
- Fern You asked if I was orange. I am.
- Bobo A witness can see exactly the right thing and still say the wrong word.
- Bobo So ask what it LOOKED like. Not who it was.
- Bobo CASE CLOSED!
- Narrator One kite. One witness. And a thief that was never there at all.
