About this episode
Six lanterns, going out one by one — and NOBODY touched them! Join Bobo & Pim, the woodland detective duo, in a fun animated mystery for kids: who is blowing out the lights?
It is Milo's very first star party, and Fern has hung six lanterns over the park to light it up. But the lanterns keep going dark — and when the last one goes out, the party is over! Nothing is taken, nothing is broken, and Ollie the owl has been watching the whole meadow all night long. Bobo finds one lantern still swinging, Pim spots that they are going out in ORDER, and little Milo keeps saying his ears went WHOOSH. Can you work out what put the lights out before the detectives do?

- Milo That one went out too!
- Fern Two! Two of my six.
- Fern Your first star party, Milo. And it is going dark.
- Milo Nobody touched it. So who blew it out?
- Milo And when they are all out, we go home.
- Bobo Nobody move! Especially the lights.
- Pim The lights were not moving, Bobo.
- Narrator Bobo had never trusted anything that glowed.
- Bobo This one is SWINGING. Something brushed straight past it!
- Fern I hung all six at teatime. Not one of them moved all evening.
- Pim And nothing has walked under them. The grass is not even bent.
- Bobo Then he is still HERE. Ollie!
- Ollie I am always here. Best seat in the park.
- Bobo You see everything. Who came to the lights?
- Ollie I have been over this meadow six times tonight. There is nobody but us.
- Bobo Then go over it again. Patrol! Circle every light. Nothing gets past you.
- Ollie On my way.
- Milo Another one! And my ears went WHOOSH.
- Bobo There is no wind tonight, Milo.
- Milo It felt like wind.
- Ollie All clear. Although there is one light fewer than when I left.
- Fern Three. We are down to three.
- Bobo To the office. This one wants the board.
- Fern I will stay with them.
- Bobo Theory one. A very tall moth.
- Pim A moth does not blow lights out. A moth flies straight INTO them.
- Bobo Theory two. The raccoon. On a ladder.
- Pim The raccoon cannot carry a ladder. He can barely carry himself.
- Narrator The theories were getting taller and thinner.
- Ollie Reporting. I flew the whole meadow twice more on the way here. Nothing at all.
- Bobo Twice MORE. Good owl.
- Pim Bobo. Look at the ORDER they go out in.
- Pim The far end first. Then the next one in. Then the next one after that.
- Pim They are not going out all over. They are going out ALONG.
- Bobo It is coming down the line! It is coming for the picnic!
- Pim Or it is coming FROM the other end.
- Bobo The other end is a tree.
- Pim Yes.
- Bobo Trees cannot blow. Ollie, back out. Fly the meadow fast. Circle every single light until we get there.
- Ollie Every one. Yes.
- Milo There! THAT. That is the whoosh.
- Bobo The window. Pim, shut the window.
- Pim The window is shut, Bobo.
- Bobo To the park!
- Fern Two at once. Right over my head.
- Milo One left.
- Bobo One light is not a party. That is a torch.
- Ollie All circled. Twice. Nothing came near them.
- Pim Three clues, detective.
- Pim One. Every lantern is still hanging there. Nothing taken, nothing broken. Only put OUT.
- Pim Two. There is no wind. Fern hung them at teatime and not one moved.
- Pim Three. They go out in ORDER. That end first, and this way along.
- Pim Nothing on the ground touched them. So what was NOT on the ground?
- Pim Ollie. One more flight, please. From your tree to the last light. Slowly.
- Ollie That is my favourite speed. Why?
- Bobo Pim. That is our LAST light.
- Pim I know.
- Milo THERE! That is the whoosh!
- Ollie Oh.
- Bobo OLLIE?
- Ollie I kept flying over to check they were still lit.
- Ollie I wasn't guarding them at all. Every time I checked one, I blew out the next one along.
- Narrator The owl had been blowing out the lights he came to guard.
- Bobo And I told him to do it. Twice.
- Bobo I gave the order. So half of this is my case and half of it is my fault.
- Pim That is the most detective thing you have ever said.
- Milo Oh. Oh, everyone. Look UP.
- Fern Oh, Milo.
- Ollie That is why we come out at night. You cannot see the stars with six lanterns in your eyes.
- Ollie That one is the Bear. That one is the Ladle. And that one is mine. I sit under it.
- Fern Six lanterns out, and the best show all year.
- Fern One. So we can find the way home.
- Milo Best night ever.
- Bobo Case closed. The one blowing out our lights... was our own night watchman.
- Ollie May I say one thing.
- Bobo Say it.
- Ollie I think I shall walk home.
